Adventure Hotels of Costa Rica refers to a nonprofit association of three-star and five-star hotels which are committed to the environmental conservation and the tourism sustainability in Costa Rica.
This association was founded in November, 2005 out of the need to fill a gap in Costa Rica’s tourism industry. Each of the hotels in the association is required to ensure that all its operations and activities are geared toward conservation of the environment and making it sustainable. This involves ensuring that the energy they use at their facilities is recyclable and does not emit toxins to the environment; this is why most of the adventure hotels use solar energy which is eco friendly. These hotels use organic farming on their farms employing use of organic substances to raise plants at the farms. Mostly, the organic food raised in the organic farms is served at the restaurants of the adventure hotels. Construction of facilities is also done with environmental conservation in mind whereby naturally raised materials like wood is used in constructions. The hotels also have efficient waste recycling systems in place so that most of wastes from the hotels’ operations are recycled to other useful substances or harmless substances to avoid straining the environment with such wastes.
